One of my newest beauty and skincare favorites actually comes from a rather surprising source: South Korean entertainment giant YG Entertainment. YG Entertainment is famous for its pop groups including BigBang and Black Pink, both of whom are also brand ambassadors for Moonshot.
Moonshot, as far as I can tell, was the idea of a summer intern that ended up coming to be. I wasn't aware of the brand until I stayed in Seoul, South Korea for six months as an exchange student. I found out about it through a friend who is a huge fan of a YG Entertainment group, so I followed her to one of their stores to check it out. I didn't buy anything on my visit, but I ended up having a few hours free time later during my trip and ended up buying a few things. I left Korea wishing I had stocked up on more of the Moonshot product since I liked the items I had so much. I ended up going back to Seoul in December and made sure to stock up on the products I hadn't gotten the first time around.
My first and favorite product from Moonshot is definitely the Microfit Cushion. It's not drying as many cushions can be, and it also has SPF in it, which makes it a double bonus if you accidentally forget sunscreen in your beauty routine.
The Moonflash Cushion is a more recent purchase. I haven't tried it yet, but the basic idea behind it is a highlighter. It's a highlighter in cushion form. I personally struggle using brushes and applying liquid products evenly throughout my face, so having a highlighter in cushion form is a great thing for someone like me. It comes in a pink-ish shade and works also as a base and top layer. The pinkish tone is great to add a little bit of color to a finished makeup look as a highlighter or works great as a color correcting to soften the tone of the skin.
(Both of these are refill-able, with the re-fills being found here - 'Microfit re-fill' x 'Moonflash re-fill'.)
Two of the next three products I had bought during my first trip to Korea: the Multi Protection UV Bouncer and the Skin Fuel Cream. The middle All in One Moisturizer is new to me, and I have yet to test it!
The Multi Protection UV Bouncer works great as both a moisturizer and a makeup/face primer. The formula goes on smooth and makes my skin feel cool. It's great on the hot, summer days to relax my skin and cool it down. The packaging is great for me because I love products that have a clean, modern look to them. I prefer my packaging to be minimalistic and easy to use. This is has a pump dispenser, which makes it extremely easy to use. I've found two to three pumps is definitely enough product to be able to spread evenly over my face.
This Skin Fuel Cream is another one of my favorite products. This product, similar to the Bouncer, has a great cooling effect on the skin. It's a colorless moisturizer and has the consistency of a gel. It's smooth and cool, leaving the skin soft afterwards. I really love using this as more of an essence in my skincare routing since it sits so well underneath heavier moisturizers. For someone with oily skin, this could very well be all you need in terms of moisture, but if you have combination or dry skin, it works great as an in-between step for skincare. It's also great to use underneath makeup since it helps smooth the skin.
These next three items are all new to me. Because of the quality of the products I had already tried, I felt I could branch out more into the skincare. I've tried the serum already, and I love it. Five drops is more than plenty for my skin, and it goes on so smoothly. The consistency is great. The other two I've yet to try.
To be honest, the main reason I grabbed these three items is because I loved the packaging. While loving modern-looking packaging, I also love packaging that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The pastel colors and minimal design drew me in and sealed the deal for me, for sure.
The serum is currently not available on their website. The product, I believe, is relatively new to the brand. When I bought it, they were having a special welcome price so the serum should be available online soon!
Buy them here:
- Skin Illuminator with SPF 50+
- Perfect Remover For Lip and Eye
I'm currently on a skincare kick, so I haven't invested much into Moonshot's cosmetics line except for these two new products: the concealer and the liquid liner. The liquid liner is amazing. Really. It has a brush pen, which is great since it offers the choice of a thin, neat line or a thicker line all by changing the pressure of your hand. The color is consistent, and it wears well.
The concealer I have yet to try on my actual face, but when I tested it in the store on my hand, it was a bit liquid-y (though I personally prefer this to a dry formula) but had great coverage. It's being touted as long-lasting, so we shall see!
Both are available here:
- Line Performer Liquid
- Dark Spot Concealer
I'm super excited about the new Moonshot products I have to try, and I'm also excited about having more of the ones I have tried! The brand has greatly impressed me so far, and if they keep it up, I'm definitely going to keep buying every time I have a chance to head back over to Korea.
One thing that I also love about Moonshot, is that pretty much any purchase gets you a sample. Thsis is pretty common for Korean brands to do this, and it's a great way to market their products and get you back in to buy full-sized versions of the samples. This is actually how I first tried the Skin Fuel Cream! Obviously, the higher the value of your purchase, the greater the number of samples you get.
I made two separate purchases in two consecutive days from Moonshot, and the worker recognized me when I popped back in the second time and gave me the samples to go with my purchase as well as three other free items: a hand mirror, a little pink lipstick case, and a sheet mask. I was so impressed by that, and it made me feel like a true valued customer.
*All of the Moonshot Cosmetics shown were purchased with my own money*
